The Bed Coordinator will prioritize and coordinate patient flow activity, bed placement, and inter/intra-facility transfers for all St. Luke's Network Hospital Campuses with the assistance of a Registered Nurse. Responsible to be the initial contact for all providers who wish to admit an elective, urgent, or emergent patient into a St. Luke's Campus. The objective is to prevent inappropriate transfers while facilitating all other placements and the appropriate placement of inpatient admissions. This individual will also be the contact for follow-up on all transfers.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



* Answers all calls into the call center in a timely fashion while demonstrating exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette, regardless of the intent of the caller.

* Effectively utilizes medical appropriateness criteria for all urgent and emergent transfers/admissions including treatment plan, medical history, reason for admission, and special considerations for patient placement.

* Assigns beds for new patient admissions, including from the Emergency Department, Direct Admission, and other admissions as required.

* Communicates an orderly transfer of information with each shift change.

* Demonstrates proper procedure and knowledge of regulations for admissions and registration.

* Facilitates bed cleaning and actively monitors beds for availability.

* Coordinates placement of OR patients with PACU/ASC to minimize disruption to the OR schedule.

* Communicates with Hospital Supervisor or Critical Care Coordinators for intervention and escalation as needed.

* Facilitates communication between referring and receiving physicians.

* Assists with orientation and training of new employees.

* Coordinates activities in the department and promotes cooperation to the staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good interdepartmental relations.

* Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective working relationships within the hospital and with the public, (e.g., police, ambulance, others).

* Attends meetings as required including administrative meetings, committee and staff meetings.

* Maintains professional growth and development through professional affiliations, seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.

* Demonstrates a consistent level of performance; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity and provides a consistent effort.

* Provides recommendations for process improvement.

* Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information.

* Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

* Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

* Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

* Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices and various alert systems in place at SLUHN.

* Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

* Collaborates with the Patient Access Manager to facilitate and review departmental practices.

* Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.

* Complies with the established chain of command for work related problems.



OTHER FUNCTIONS:



* Fosters effective, interpersonal communications with patients, visitors, physicians, nurses, and employees of St. Luke's Health Network in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner.

* Assists with marketing activities related to Patient Access Center.

* Responsible for ongoing detailed knowledge of the hospital computer system as it applies to registration, admissions, and transfers.

* Other related duties as assigned.



PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:



Sitting for up to 8-12 hours per day, one hour at a time. Stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder level rarely. Never crawling or climbing. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general and near vision.



POTENTIAL ON THE JOB RISKS: No risks identified.



MOST COMPLEX DUTY: Coordinating several events concurrently, while on the phone with multiple parties. Assuring that patients meet medical necessity criteria. Triaging for appropriate bed placement. Utilizing computer system and phones for all work related activities.



SUPERVISION: Supervised by the PAC Manager and Sr. RN Bed Coordinator.



COMMUNICATIONS: Must be able to effectively communicate in a professional and timely manner with a large number of customers, both internal and external, including physicians. Must present a professional image at all times.



HOURS:



Full-time, 40 hours per week 10:30am-6:30pm, Overtime is available.



Every other weekend and 4 holidays on a rotation are required.



Remote work available for qualifying employees after 1 year.



3 days of Epic Training 8a-4p, and 6 Weeks of Orientation starting on day shift - 3rd week moving to scheduled shift.



$10 K sign on bonus with 2 year commitment
