Job Description:
* JOB SUMMARY
* Critical care level nursing is a specialty that exists to care
for patients who are experiencing life-threatening health crises
within a patient / family centered model of care. Our nurses work
collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide an
advanced level of care and coordination considering the unique
physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of the patient and
family. Lifelong learning and the spirit of enquiry are essential
for the advancement of critical thinking and advancement of the
nursing process in this patient population.
* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- USES NURSING PROCESS AS A FRAMEWORK TO DELIVER CARE:
- Gathers physiological and psychosocial data on admission and at
regular intervals, analyzes and validates data from multiple
sources to make complex decisions about priorities of care in life
threatening and non-life threatening situations.
- Sets goals to organize assignment; collaborates with patients
and their families on the patient's desired goals;
- acting on physician's orders in a timely manner; developing
independent nursing interventions appropriate to the patient's
- response to care; documents interventions and their resultant
responses in order to
- improve systems that support patient care.
* ESTABLISHES A COMPASSIONATE ENVIRONMENT
- By providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to
patients, friends, and families.
- Advocates for the concerns of the patient, their families and
the community we serve.
- Collaborates with the inter professional team to promote
palliative or end-of-life discussions, support and care when
appropriate.
* PROMOTES PATIENT'S INDEPENDENCE
- Teaching patient, friends, and family to understand condition,
medications, safety, and self-care skills;
- answering questions.
- Assists patient and family in self-determination and informed
decision making.
* ASSURES QUALITY OF CARE
- Incorporates professional, legal, ethical and critical care
standards into practice.
- Adheres to therapeutic standards;
- measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and
standards;
- making or recommending necessary adjustments;
- following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and
standards of care set by State Nurse Practice Act, and other
governing agencies.
* MAINTAINS SAFE AND CLEAN WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Integrates data to anticipate, prevent and recognize injury or
dysfunction that may contribute to a life-threatening health crisis
or alteration in health.
- Complies with procedures, rules, and regulations for safety and
infection control;
- keeping patient rooms in a neat and orderly fashion, cleaning
assigned equipment or areas according to procedure and adhering to
medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled
substance regulations.
* RESPECTS PATIENTS AND THE ORGANIZATION
- Emphasizing the value of patient and family contribution to the
plan of care, the Clinical Care nurse demonstrates effective
interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution
skills.
- Recognizes patient rights, patient privacy;
- and keeps information confidential and responding to requests
with diplomacy and tact.
* ENSURES OPERATION OF EQUIPMENT
- By completing preventive maintenance requirements;
- following manufacturer's instructions;
- troubleshooting malfunctions;
- processing requisitions for repair; maintaining equipment
inventories;
- evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Attends ongoing skill and competency training to maintain the
qualifications necessary to operate equipment and execute
protocols.
* MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
- Participates in ongoing learning experiences and activities to
develop and maintain clinical and professional knowledge and
skills.
- Seeks learning opportunities that reflect current and
evidenced-based practice.
- Maintains licensure requirements and participates in all
mandatory education.
- Maintains professional records or a portfolio that provides
evidence of competence and lifelong learning.
* DEMONSTRATES FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY
- Checking stock to determine inventory level;
- anticipating needed supplies;
- placing and expediting orders for supplies;
- verifying receipt of supplies;
- using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job
results.
* CONTRIBUTES TO ORGANIZATIONAL TEAM EFFORT
- Collabores with the patient, family and interprofessional
team.
- Seeks to effect appropriate changes that produces positive
outcomes, participaties in performance improvement projects and
adheres to standards that govern behavior among the team to create

trust.
- MAINTAINS A COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIP AMONG HEALTH CARE
TEAMS
- By accomplishing related results as needed,
- Following through on delegated tasks, responding to co-workers
requests
- For assistance, demonstrating behaviors as defined by the GSSH
code of conduct, acting as a resource and/or leader when the need
arises.
- By documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and
continuing needs.

* QUALIFICATIONS
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

- Education
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Completion of a critical care course required
- Work Experience
- 1-2 years of intensive care or telemetry experience
required
- Licenses / Certifications
- Registered Nurse license required
- Basic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the
American Heart Association required
