Sound like you?Process Gases Cryogenics Technology team leads identification and commercialization of processing technologies for sophisticated feed gas streams. The type of feed gases is highly variable, and the success of a novel separation technology depends on customer requirements as well as project economics. Some of the technologies that the team is responsible include helium extraction, recovery, purification, and liquefaction, hydrogen purification, and liquefaction, hydrogen and carbon monoxide separation, nitrogen rejection, NGL recovery, CO2 separation, recovery, purification, and liquefaction, and off gas and purge gas separation.Nature and scopeA Research Associate is a senior level individual contributor position provides broad technical leadership and strategic direction in the identification and development of technology solutions, intellectual property assessment and development, technology risk management and driven awareness. External focus and collaboration with leading research organizations including Universities is highly encouraged.An ideal candidate will be a creative individual with experience in chemical engineering processes, equipment and systems of interest to industrial gases production and separation. The candidate will also have knowledge and experience in performing techno-economic analysis of novel processes and equipment to articulate their benefits compared to the incumbent options. The candidate should have proven experience in developing process cycles involving an appropriate combination of membranes, dehydration, adsorption, compression, absorption, heat exchange and distillation unit operations. Prior industrial experience in design, scale up, start up and field trouble shooting is a desirable qualification. It is expected that the candidate will establish and cultivate significant technical networks with external organizations such as Universities, research institutes and government regulatory and funding organizations. He or she will in addition seek and create partnerships with other companies including start-ups to jointly develop new technologies for commercialization.The selected candidate will be expected to work with the Business Development and Product Line organizations to develop novel, and often patentable, process cycles and technologies to either progress into a product offering or implement immediately in a project. This role requires the candidate to have innovative and out-of-the-box thinking to generate differentiating and valuable ideas. At the same time, the role requires good organizational skills and field in driving development efforts towards commercialization using the meticulous stage-gate process. Additionally, the role requires a sense of practicality to guide idea screening and technology development.Principal accountabilities Identify and develop technology programs in alignment with Process Gases business and product strategy, implement ODI principles and fields in technology projects and programs. Generate Blue Ocean ideas and concepts involving use of separations technologies for new markets / applications. Be able to evaluate ideas, processes and technologies based on the applicability, CAPEX, OPEX, and return on investment. For promising ideas, build a business case, capture support, and take the concept through the meticulous stage gate process and drive it to conclusion, e.g., commercialization, or timely project termination if deemed unsuccessful (fail fast, fail cheap). File patent applications, to provide exclusivity and/ or freedom to practice. Maintain awareness of current driven activities and the state of the development of relevant technologies by outside entities. Work with appropriate Technology Managers to identify technology risks, put together mitigation plans and support field testing needs of newly commercialized offerings. Work with the Business Development, Product Line, Project, and Operations organization to facilitate commercialization and start-up of new technology in the field. Deliver all objectives safely and achieve 100% compliance with safety requirements.Requirements and qualifications BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering. A PhD degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 10-15 years of work experience. Demonstrated prior experience in developing novel processes as evidenced by patent applications or granted patents. Demonstrated track record of commercializing novel technologies. Extensive prior experience in process modeling tools, preferably ASPEN Plus. Demonstrated prior experience in process flow sheet development. Expertise in cryogenic distillation principles and operations is a plus. Expertise in CO2 separation, recovery, purification, and liquefaction is a plus.
