Job Summary: Under the directions of the RN or Nursing Management, performs direct care duties including bathing, feeding, dressing, vital#signs, hygiene, ambulating patients, and meal trays. Works efficiently with the team and develops open communications with#peers, patients, and visitors to assure a quality holistic approach to patient care. Cares for injured, disabled, mentally ill, or elderly patients in a healthcare setting. # Tasks: #Provides hands on patient care including taking and recording vital signs, weight, and height, as directed by Staff#Nurse. #Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. #Delivers assistance to patients with toileting functions; washes incontinent patients and changes linen, and#ensures patient is clean and dry. #Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other#problems to management, cleaning equipment, as assigned, and preparing same for disinfection, and receiving#linen#and supply stock on the unit. #Assists with pre-operative and post-operative care, and positioning patient, lifting, and turning patient with proper body#mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment as necessary, and ambulating the patient as directed. #Facilitates proper grooming practices by shaving male patients, as needed. #Checks patients routinely to assure that their personal care needs are being met; cleans trays and instruments,and##obtains supplies required. #Collects specimens and transports same to proper areas, as requested. #Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel, while#assuring confidentiality of patient information. #Follows established isolation, as well as standard blood and body fluid precautions and procedures. #Follows work assignments and/or work schedules in completing and performing your assigned tasks. #Handles and cares for patient#s clothing and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aids,#dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge of the patient. #Helps prepare unit, patient room(s), and patient bed(s) for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patient,transfer, or emergencies. #Conducts hourly rounds to assigned patients, anticipates patient#s needs, and answers/responds to patient call#lights or pages promptly. #Prepares patient for meals, distributes food trays, assists, or feeds patients, as necessary, and removes tray;keeps water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water and within easy reach of the patient; records intake and#output. #Attends professional development education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, and#development skills; attends Joint Commission mandated programs annually. #Carries out emergency fire and disaster plans and participates in education and drills as applicable
