- Demonstrates awareness of individual patient rights
- Provide safe patient care in individual room:
- Monitors physical symptoms
- Ensure consent is current and dated.
- The staff nurse provides professional nursing care to all
patients. Maintains safe level of care in collaboration with
multidisciplinary team members. The GI-Endoscopy nurse is
responsible for the overall nursing activity while the patient is
in his/her care. She/he providing assists the team during invasive
procedure by anticipating and providing, and carries out activities
to meet the needs of the patient and the endoscopy team.
- Assist the Head Nurse as directed in:
- Scheduling of GI/CYSTO Cases
- Acts as a Charge Nurse
- Help with maintaining records and statistics
- Assist in the development of staff unit-based orientation and
education:
- Orientation of new personnel.
- Formulation and interpretation of procedures, standards and
techniques.
- Assumes accountability and responsibility for his/her own work
performances:
- Observe assigned work hours and schedules.
- Provide availability for emergencies.
- Assist with inventory control.
- Maintains open communication with staff and surgeons.
- Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress
and/or other impending emergencies and initiates the necessary
action.
- Applies principles of proper body alignment during transfer and
positioning of patients.
- Ensures safety of patient during electrical equipment (i.e.
Electro-surgical cautery units).
- Maintains clean technique and adheres OHSA regulations for
safety
- Assure appropriate care for instruments and equipment:
- Assist in care and handling of supplies and equipment.
- Uses supplies judiciously.
- Coordinates the activities of other health care professionals
during procedure intervention.
- Administers drugs and solutions as prescribe.
- Enforces infection control in Endoscopy by recording the number
listed in the scope utilized.
- Participates/contributes in the performance
improvements/breakthrough activities.
- Participates in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment
and/or instruments.
- Utilizes available resources to keep current in nursing
practice.
- Contributes to the efficient and smooth functioning of the
department.
- Act as resource person and provides direction to other members
of the health care team.Minimum Qualifications
- A valid New York State license and current registration to
practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
and
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and
current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the
American Heart Association (AHA).Special NoteFor assignments in
Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria
may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing
education program registered by the New York State Education
Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered
Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN.
These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation
pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must
apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited
permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for
up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit.
In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a
valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through
