Performs waived, moderate and highly complex laboratory tests. Assumes responsibility for teaching/training of new employees and students, problem-solving and quality control. Performs supervisory duties and special assignments as delegated.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains technical expertise in assigned area. Advises supervisor/medical director on technical methodologies, operations and systems.
  • Establishes a system for quality, efficient and cost effective completion of testing.
  • Writes and revises procedures in accordance with laboratory accrediting agencies standards including reference ranges and specimen requirements. Reviews the laboratory procedure manual at least bi-annually.
  • Schedules staff, organizes, prioritizes and oversees daily workload in order to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion. Assumes responsibility for problem solving daily operation.
  • Establishes system and oversees the maintenance of equipment.
  • Acts as a resource in troubleshooting technical and equipment operations.
  • Establishes system for and reviews quality control data.
  • Establishes and maintains a system for proficiency testing.
  • Reviews results, submits data, reviews evaluation summaries and investigates any unacceptable results.
  • Reviews quality assurance reports. Takes action to correct questionable results with proper documentation and follow-up. Notifies supervisor of such action.
  • Maintains inventory control; orders supplies.
  • Performs laboratory tests according to established protocols as designated by supervisor. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
    Sitting up to 7 hours per day - 2-hour increments. Standing up to 5 hours per day - 2-hourincrements. Walking - up to 7 hours per day - short increments. Frequently uses fingers tomanipulate small vials, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratoryequipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes/equipment up to 30 lbs.Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment. Frequent stooping, bending. Occasional crouching.Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth). Hearing asit relates to normal, high and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color andperipheral vision. Depth perception. Ability to palpate veins.
    EDUCATION:------------------
    Must meet the 42 CFR 493.1411 - Standard; Technical consultant qualifications: --Have earned a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology from an (accreditation is verified on websites of accrediting commissions on higher education such as ) ; and have at least 2 years of training or experience, or both in non-waived testing, in the designated specialty or subspecialty of service for which the technical consultant is responsible.
    Employees hired before 3/19/2018 are grandfathered to the following qualifications of MT (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), or eligible. Under these circumstances the Laboratory Manager will be ultimately responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory.
    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    A minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience in the assigned discipline preferred
