Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of
industrial gases, has an immediate opportunity for a Fleet
Engineering Manager based at our global headquarters in Allentown,
The Fleet Engineering Manager is responsible for a broad range of
support for the North American Fleet of over 2,000 tractors,
semi-trailers and trucks including providing technical direction
and project management for new and existing assets. In addition,
the Fleet Engineering Manager is instrumental in developing the
strategic approach to product development and standardization of
equipment/components to meet business requirements for safety,
efficiency, and reliability through value engineering,
benchmarking, and using supplier partnerships.
Nature and Scope:
The mission of Fleet Engineering is to provide cost effective and
timely support to Distribution, Maintenance, Asset Management, and
the Business. This team strives to deliver EH&S excellence,
productivity, standardization, and reliability for transport
equipment. The position emphasizes technical and leadership skills
with the ability to apply a broad knowledge of engineering and
manufacturing experience. A significant challenge in the coming
years for the Fleet Engineering Manager will be to ensure a
coordinated transition from diesel to hydrogen fueled HD trucks. In
addition, there will be a significant expansion of the Company's
liquid hydrogen trailer fleet in support of business growth in the
hydrogen for mobility market.
The Fleet Engineering Manager has direct supervision responsibility
of a team of 6-7 engineers/specialists.
Leading the fleet engineering team by managing workload and
performance to assure projects, rehab/repairs and engineering
support are done in the most efficient manner.
Defining and implementing a strategic direction for the fleet
engineering team that is aligned with business requirements.
Building and championing a team that brings value by delivering
results with a sense of urgency.
Developing and maintaining transport equipment specifications,
schematics and BOMs.
Working with the fleet maintenance community to monitor and improve
preventative maintenance practices.
Owning the execution for all fleet transport equipment projects to
ensure on time and on budget completion while meeting performance
and quality control expectations.
Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with suppliers,
vendors, and contractors to minimize overall costs.
Developing and improving procedures and work processes to support
safe and efficient transport equipment operation and fleet
engineering knowledge retention.
Ensuring compliance with DOT, Transport Canada, OSHA and Air
Products policies and procedures.
Owning the management of change process for fleet transport
Ensuring Fleet Engineering participation in transportation industry
committees including Compressed Gas Association (CGA), Canadian
Standards Association (CSA), Transport Canada (TC) and others
affiliated with the design of transportation equipment.
Qualifying and periodically auditing vendors to ensure quality
Supporting and leading incident investigations and conducting
failure analysis to identify root causes and corrective
Participating in the Global Fleet Engineering community to share
and replicate standard processes.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Minimum of ten (10) years of industry experience required.
Strong project management and communication skills.
A track record of developing and improving work processes.
Positive attitude, courage, and ability to lead change
Demonstrated ability to build and supervise a team and willingness
and enthusiasm to mentor and develop talent.
An understanding of and experience with regulations and laws
pertaining to over the road transport equipment
Experience with and knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety
Standards with a demonstrated commitment to improving
Ability to travel up to 25%.
