With our atmospheric, process and specialty gases, equipment, and technologies, we supply creative solutions to energy, environmental and emerging markets around the world.We are currently recruiting for a Piping and Layout Design Manager to join our team based in Allentown, Pennsylvania.The Piping and Layout Design Manager is a key member of the Americas Engineering Leadership Team. The Americas Engineering Team serves a diverse market including petrochemical, steel, gasification, and electronics. We are a regional team who work closely with colleagues in our United Kingdom, India, and China engineering offices. We also provide support to the Americas Operations team and after-sales support in upgrading/modifying, revalidation and maintaining existing plant assets.The incumbent oversees a growing team of 70 engineers and designers accountable for the successful completion of stress engineering and piping and layout design activities for new cryogenic air separation plants and process gases (hydrogen, carbon monoxide, helium liquefaction, nitrogen and helium units).PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the growing 60-70 team members with the assistance of Section Managers and Salary Budget Managers.
  • Manage team performance to project cost and schedule commitments.
  • Develop and grow individuals through coaching, mentoring, and training
  • Provide technical direction and problem solving when required.
  • Creation and review of estimates, schedules, and functional execution strategies.
  • Ensure functional understanding of regional scope splits between Basic Engineering Design and Detailed Engineering Design.
  • Drive successful execution of the detailed layout and piping design activities from opportunity phase through on-stream.
  • Ensure that design and engineering is in accordance with codes and Air Products' safety and reliability standards
  • Facilitate and drive improvement though use of good EPC industry business practices in the areas of new work processes, tools, and strategies.
  • Engage with the global functional managers to develop new ideas, improvements, and integrations.
  • Monitor progress and performance against the project schedule and measured earned value.
  • Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.
  • Ensure effective technical coordination with clients or third-party representatives.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and engage in appropriate hiring of skilled professionals to support the growing Air Products project portfolio
  • Resolve or escalate issues arising from resource constraints.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering.
    • Min. 20 years relevant professional experience.
    • Min. 5 years in a management or supervisory role of a detailed design team.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and coaching skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and delegate work appropriately.
    • Good commercial awareness with ability to manage change.
    • Experience directly overseeing the creation or conduct of some or all of the following engineering and design deliverables and activities:
      • Plot Plan creation and review
      • Development of SmartPlant 3D models
      • Material specifications of piping and piping components that make up the overall design
      • Effective layout and stress analysis using Autopipe and Caesar II stress analysis tools
      • Model reviews (30%, 60% and 90% model review)
      • Effective isometric planning and management
      • Design completion statements
