41248BRReq No.:41248BRJob Description and Qualifications: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has multiple openings for a Process Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania as well as openings in our Houston based office.
This position will part of a large Process Engineering team that executes large capital projects, supports product development, provides bid support, and can provide engineering support for existing Air Products assets in both North and South America. The Process team is made up of 3 unique sub-teams, Process, Process Systems, and Process Safety Engineering. These unique teams will provide a novel opportunity for an early career Engineer to explore various career paths in Process Engineering while working alongside seasoned professionals within each of the teams. Some of the plants/technologies we design include the following.



  • Air Separation Plants (ASUs)


  • Steam Methane Reformers (SMRs or H2/CO Plants)


  • Helium and Hydrogen Liquefiers-Very Cold


  • Ammonia and Urea Plants


  • Helium Extraction/Purification


  • Off-Gas Plants


  • Methanol


  • Gasification


  • CO Cold Box


  • Sulfuric Acid


    In this unique opportunity, the Engineer will initially be placed into one our teams but later have the opportunity to rotate into all one of the other major areas of Engineering based on interest (Process, Systems, and Safety). One of the goals of this role will be to build well rounded, knowledgeable Engineers that will have the skills to succeed as their career progresses into more Senior roles within the company.
    Typical Reasonability's based on each sub-Team:
    Process Engineering:


    • Equipment specifications for front end purification systems, catalytic reactors, systems, heat exchangers, and steam systems.


    • Cryogenic Distillation system design


    • Machinery, control valve, and relief system process specification


    • Hazard and operability reviews.


    • On site performance test and troubleshooting


    • Process cycle synthesis and selection, PFD development, Aspen simulations


    • Plant Commissioning and Performance Tests


      Process Systems Engineering:


      • Assist with the development/management of the projects P&ID's, functional logic tables, critical safety valve tables and operating procedures/training manuals.


      • Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations (SIL and Fault Tree Experience a plus)


      • Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability and maintenance, while providing technical liaison support to Global Operations.


      • Assist with Management and provide input into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility arrangement (Plot Plan).


      • Participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System) staging (SAT, Software Acceptance Test) and field validation.


      • Participate and help plan field-commissioning activities including Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Plant Start-up and assist with the development and implementation of reliability test plans.


      • Plant Commissioning support, flow checking, validation, ORI, Start-up


        Process Safety Engineering:


        • Assist with preparation and execution of plant Hazard Reviews


        • Evaluate Plant Process Safety


        • Perform risk studies


        • Assist with assuring compliance with local Safety Regulatory Code


        • Help develop safety solutions for our projects


        • Identify and manage process controls technical risk items


        • Perform Root Cause and participate in accident investigations


        • Plant Commissioning support, ORI, Start-up


          QUALIFICATIONS:


          • BS Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (Other engineering majors considered with applicable experience) with 0-5 years' experience.


          • Desired experience would be in new plant engineering with a strong focus on plant operations and plant startups.


          • The applicant should possess or have the aptitude to acquire a balanced multi-discipline understanding in Process Engineering, Process Systems, and Process Safety disciplines.


          • The applicant must communicate effectively and seek out technical expertise as required.


          • Travel may be required, both domestic and international. Travel will include trips to plant sites, equipment fabricators, outside engineering firms, and Air Products Engineering Office (estimated at 0-15%/year).
