Job Description and QualificationsAir Products and Chemicals,
Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an
immediate opportunity for a Mechanical Integrity Engineer! We
require a skilled and experienced professional for the role of
Mechanical Integrity Engineer that will provide technical
leadership and governance in the area of Mechanical Integrity to
our regional operating organizations.
The position will collaborate with operations, maintenance,
engineering, metallurgy, and 3rd party engineering firms to develop
aging plant inspection strategies for our diverse product line of
operating plants, support development of detailed inspection
scopes, and conduct Fitness For Service (FFS) assessments of
inspection results. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a
plant environment. Strong communication and leadership skills along
with technical knowledge of fixed equipment engineering are
required. Travel to the plant sites and engineering offices will be
required (25%+/-), with most of the travel being throughout North
America. Some travel may be required to Europe, Middle East, and
Asia. This position can be located near our Allentown, PA or
Houston, TX facilities or residence based.
As the Mechanical Integrity Engineer, you will:
- Lead the development of inspection strategies for aging plant
assets that will become the basis for extended life inspections at
our HyCO and Industrial Gas assets. This will include evaluating
the cost of inspection versus equipment maintenance to develop end
of life assessment strategies for various assets.
- Provide technical leadership to the Operating organization for
development, execution, and assessment of complex inspection
activities. This includes creating inspection scope packages and
when necessary, traveling to the field to support execution.
- Champion Fitness For Service evaluations for vessel, tank, and
piping inspection results using API 579 analysis. Mentor the
Regional Operations Technical Support Organizations and when
necessary, execute complex FFS assessments.
- Become a subject matter expert in the use of the Fitness For
- Provide technical leadership to the Regional Operations
Technical Support Organizations in option sorting complex repairs
that may arise from the inspection activities.
- Mentor the Regional Operations Technical Support Organizations
on engineering design calculations and when necessary, be a single
point of contact for work with the Air Products Engineering
Organization and 3rd party engineering contractors to implement
design changes to pressure vessels and piping to address
- Provide technical expertise in pressure systems failure
investigations. Identify required mechanical integrity program
strategy changes as required.Qualification Requirements:
- Mechanical Engineering degree (BS) required. Minimum 5 years
related experience required; 10 years preferred.
- Experience with design and/or maintenance of vessels, tanks and
- Experience with fixed equipment associated with steam systems
(Boilers, Deaerators, convection coils)
- Experience with the design, inspection and repairs of Fixed
Equipment associated with Steam Methane Reformers (SMR),
Autothermal Catalytic Reformers (ATR), or Ammonia Plants.
- Knowledge of inspection/test procedures used to assess vessels,
tanks, piping, and heat exchangers.
- Fitness For Service (FFS) assessment skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
clearly and effectively to all levels within the organization.
- Strong leadership skills
- Desirable to have ASME / API Pressure Vessel, Piping inspection
